Trapdoor Theatre School

The Trapdoor Theatre School opened in April 2006 and is run by local couple, Debbie and Alex Adams -  both of whom have a wealth of experience working with young people in all areas of performance. From choreography, directing and set design to theatrical make-up, hair and costuming - there is nothing that they do not do! Trapdoor offers competitively priced Theatre training during term time to any student with an interest in the arts. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. Whether it be to improve on a talent you already know you have, or to discover you are capable of something you didn't previously realise - Trapdoor is the school for you. With Senior Staff Leader, Star Bray and experienced teachers, Eliza Hackett and Darcie Bennett, along with our lovely teaching assistants we can offer the best teaching locally for your children.

Classes are conveniently based at Ratton School in Eastbourne, where we have use of the schools fantastic facilities - 4 Drama / Dance studios and a fully equipped Hall and Theatre Performance Stage, including full lighting desk, sound desk and dressing rooms. Termly showcases take place at our performance home - The Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne. We feel extremely lucky to be able to give the students the opportunity to perform at our own Theatre, which in turn has become 'their' Theatre. Alongside Musical Theatre training we are able to offer basic training in sound and lighting and hold one session a year at the Theatre where the students can get hands on and explore what it's really like to run a Theatre.

 

Tuition is available to young people in two age groups of 3-7 years and 7-18 years.

Trapdoor employs a fantastic group of staff - teachers and class assistants who all share the same ethos with regards to teaching. They are proficient all-rounders with a clear understanding of the philosophy of the school and all we aim to achieve. Every student is treated as an individual and we pride ourselves on getting to know each child really well.

We welcome students to express themselves - all classes are fully inclusive, fun, friendly and lively and above all else are a great place to forge new friendships and build confidence in your ability. Free taster sessions are available at the start of each term for all new students.
